I was commissioned in the fall of 2017 to write a play dramatizing the conflict between Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Du Bois. Drawing on these men’s own words, and on stories others told about them, I was able to creative a narrative throughline that gave the two men the opportunity to voice their opinions in open debate with one another.
